The University of Queensland copy is inscribed on half title “To dear Essex from Mary. March 1918.” The half title also bears the inscription “[word illegible] R. Benson Stokecliff, Dartmouth” and an annotation in the same hand on “Essex”: “(my mother)”. The text is annotated in three places by the same hand:
p. 84: “Essex’s engagement to Ralph Benson” is annotated “of Lutwyche. d . 1912.”
p. 99: “Essex Benson’s first child, George” annotated “George Benson of Lutwyche b.1888”
p. 122: “Essex…was expecting a child…Stella” annotated “Stella Benson writer, d.1926 in China.”
